“There is three key things for good photography: the camera, lighting and… Photoshop”
- Tyra Banks
I discovered how true this is doing the fashion study. No one component, photo, lighting and editing allow the finished product to stand on its own. All three elements, or steps are required to make a successful fashion ad print. The layout has to be appealing to the audience. After all, we buy fashion to make ourselves beautiful or attractive so why have anything less in a photo. The lighting is the emphasis of the subject, it points the eye to where and what we want the audience to see the most of. The editing piece is the personal touch, the artist’s signature, an opportunity to fine tune the photo to the audience while eliminating the imperfections. Some may criticize the overuse of Photoshop in modern advertising, others say a necessary evil. You decide.
